Mental Health Bill Delayed Again

Over 50 Mental Health Leaders Sign Open Letter to An Taoiseach

Mental Health Reform is deeply disappointed that the Mental Health Bill will not be signed into law before the general election.

In response to this development, the coalition has sent an open letter to Taoiseach, Simon Harris, cabinet ministers and party leaders.

The letter urges the Government to reinstate the Mental Health Bill 2024 at Dáil Committee Stage within the first 100 days of the next Government. It also calls on the Government to extend the regulatory powers of the Mental Health Commission to regulate community mental health residences and services, including CAMHS.

The reform of the Mental Health Act, 2001 must be a key priority in the new Programme for Government.
