Grassroots Forum

What is the Grassroots Forum?

The Grassroots Forum is a dynamic collective within Mental Health Reform, Ireland’s leading national coalition for mental health advocacy.

It unites individuals with lived experience of mental health challenges, service users, family members, carers, and supporters, to actively shape mental health policy, services, and public discourse.

This forum is integral to our mission, ensuring that reform is driven by those who know the system best, not from the outside looking in, but from the inside, where the real stories unfold.

What are the Grassroots Goals?

The Grassroots Forum is involved in:

Policy Advocacy

Influencing submissions and policy positions on mental health.

Public Engagement

Participating in webinars, events, and media campaigns.

Research Collaboration

Contributing to the development of mental health research, reports, and guides.

Media Representation

Sharing lived experiences through interviews and storytelling.

We meet with the Grassroots Forum in quarterly online and in-person gatherings to foster a space for collaboration and action.

If you are a Mental Health Reform Governing Member and wish to nominate an individual for the Grassroots Forum, please let us know.

My Voice Matters

Nothing About Me

Without Me

We believe in the foundational principle of participatory and rights-based approaches in mental health care. It underscores the imperative that individuals with lived experience must be meaningfully involved in all decisions that affect them—at the personal, service, and policy levels.  autonomy, and expertise of service users. In the context of mental health reform. Sustainable, effective change cannot occur without the leadership, insight, and consent of those whose lives are most impacted.
