Mental health is one of the greatest public health challenges facing Ireland today. Years of chronic underinvestment, amid rising demand, have placed unprecedented pressure on the mental health system.
Mental Health Reform is urging the Government to allocate at least 7% of the health budget to mental health in Budget 2027, putting Ireland on a credible pathway towards the Sláintecare commitment to allocate 10% of the health budget to mental health by 2030.
Funding is needed to expand services in our communities, including prevention and early intervention, community mental health teams, talk therapies, and crisis supports.
Budget 2027 is an opportunity to deliver a step change in mental health care. With the right investment, we can ensure that every person, regardless of where they live, can access the care they need when they need it.
Now is the time for the Government to invest in hope.
Put Mental Health First
Increase mental health funding to 10% of the total health budget by 2030.
Support Within Reach
Ensure everyone can access the right support, in the right place at the right time.
Strengthen Communities
Provide sustainable, multi-year funding for voluntary and community organisations.
Deliver on Reform
Invest in the implementation of the Mental Health Act 2026 and national mental health policies.
Mental Health Reform recently launched its #InvestInHope campaign which calls on the Government to invest Ireland’s mental health services in #Budget2027. Email your local TDs to ask them to invest in our mental health services
