Mental Health Reform launches Plain English Guide to Mental Health Bill Amendments

Mental Health Reform has launched a new Plain English Guide to the Mental Health Bill amendments. The guide is designed to help the public better understand the proposed changes to Ireland’s mental health legislation.

Mental health law affects some of the most vulnerable people in our society, but language used in legislation is often hard to understand. This guide explains the law in clear and simple terms, helping people to take part in one of the most significant mental health reforms in decades. We have highlighted specific proposed amendments which concern us and set out our recommendations.

The publication comes at a crucial time as the Mental Health Bill moves through the final stages of the legislative process. Mental Health Reform has continued to highlight key areas of concern arising from recent Committee Stage amendments and remains actively engaged with the Minister’s office to seek constructive improvements ahead of Report Stage.

The Plain English Guide to the Mental Health Bill is now available on Mental Health Reform’s website. It aims to foster open, informed discussion among people with lived experience, families, advocates, and policymakers alike.
