Mental Health Reform, Ireland’s leading national coalition for mental health, welcomes the publication of “Sharing the Vision: A Mental Health Policy for Everyone Implementation Plan 2025 – 2027“.
The 3-year second implementation plan will continue to prioritise mental health, and early intervention, in addition to specialist mental health service delivery across Ireland.
Of note is Minister Mary Butler’s renewed commitment to enact the Mental Health Bill 2024 as soon as practicable and after due consideration of amendments at Committee Stage. The completed Act will deliver a robust and human right centred framework for person-centred mental health care.
We further welcome the expansion in access to social prescribing, a service aimed at adults who may experience social isolation and loneliness such as older age groups, people with chronic health problems and people with mental health difficulties and psychosocial needs.
Mental Health Reform, Interim CEO, Philip Watt noted: “Yesterday’s launch of the Sharing the Vision Implementation Plan will help to modernise and promote mental health services in Ireland.
Mental Health Reform welcome’s the inclusion of the Mental Health Bill 2024 enactment in the implementation plan, however this must be backed up with investment in Budget 2026 and beyond’.
There are numerous welcome service developments in today’s implementation plan, and we would like to commend Minister Mary Butler, officials from the Department of Health and all relevant stakeholders including the National Implementation and Monitoring Committee for Sharing the Vision for their continued work on improving mental health care in Ireland.”
