Mental Health Bill to be Discussed at Committee Stage

Mental Health Bill to be Discussed at Committee Stage

19th February 2025

Mental Health Reform warmly welcomes the Government decision that the Mental Health Bill, 2024 will be reintroduced at Committee Stage as part of the Government Legislative Programme for Spring 2025. We acknowledge the continuing commitment of Government Chief Whip and Minister of State for Mental Health, Mary Butler TD, in ensuring this important legislation is prioritised and enacted as part of the Legislative Programme.

Philip Watt, interim CEO added: ‘The decision to prioritise the Mental Health Bill by the Government early in their term of office is very welcome. Mental Health Reform looks forward to contributing to further discussion at Committee Stage and beyond, including consideration of amendments. This is a vital opportunity to reform our mental health legislation that cannot be missed.  We are particularly pleased that the Bill is being reintroduced at Committee stage rather than having to commence the legislative process from the beginning again – this will help speed the Bill’s enactment.”
